Meridian Holdings

A mining-and-trade megacorp built by two friends with opposite temperaments — one all poise, one all conviction — and the only major corp still run by the people who founded it.

Overview

Meridian Holdings deals in mining, freight, and trade: the unglamorous business of moving material around a solar system that runs on scarcity. Where its rivals grew by acquisition and political capture, Meridian grew because Idris Kahlo could close a deal nobody else could and Tobias Wren believed, loudly and sincerely, that the work mattered.

That founding partnership is still intact, which makes Meridian an anomaly. Every other major has been through a coup, an ouster, or a leadership crisis in living memory. Meridian has the same two people at the top it started with, and their split of responsibility — Kahlo outward, Wren inward — has never seriously been tested in public.

The corp is risk-tolerant by disposition. It takes partners, takes chances, and moves before the analysis is finished. That temperament made it, and it is the reason the Lacuna Cooperative split away generations ago.
